BSE CPSE is a thematic index that captures the performance of the central public sector enterprises that are listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). It is a diversified index of 53 stocks that are owned to the extent of 51% or more by the central government. The BSE CPSE stocks span 13 sectors, namely, Power, Oil & Gas, Metal & Mining, Capital Goods, Finance, Transport Services, Tourism, Telecom, Agriculture, FMCG, Chemical & Petrochemical, Healthcare, and Transport Equipment.
This BSE CPSE index was launched on September 29, 2014, with the first value date as July 8, 2008, and with a base value of 1000. Since its inception, the S&P BSE CPSE share price has breached the levels of 1,500 at ~6.4x P/E multiples. The weighted average carbon intensity of the BSE CPSE index rounds up to ~ 3,260.
BSE CPSE is reconstituted semi-annually in June and December. The index value is calculated based on free-float market capitalisation value at the end of the day. The BSE CPSE index is calculated in two currencies: INR and USD. It has an index variant in the form of S&P BSE CPSE TR for both currencies.
S&P BSE CPSE index is managed and governed by S&P BSE Index Committee set up under Asia Index Private Ltd, which is a joint venture of S&P and BSE Ltd. The BSE CPSE index is suitable for benchmarking fund portfolios and launching of index funds looking for a liquid and investable exposure to CPSEs.
The S&P BSE CPSE share price is computed by weighting its 53 stocks based on float-adjusted market capitalisation value, using the divisor methodology of the S&P Dow Jones equity indices. Index weight rebalancing is done semi-annually based on their free-float market capitalisation.

The BSE CPSE index is reconstituted semi-annually in June and December, with the last trading day of April and October serving as reference dates. No additions are made to the S&P BSE CPSE index in between the rebalancing dates.
