About Tata Motors

Tata Motors Limited was incorporated in 1945 as Tata Locomotive and Engineering Company Limited. In 2003, the company’s name was changed to Tata Motors Limited. Global automaker Tata Motors produces a variety of passenger, commercial, and electric vehicles. The company is leading India’s shift towards electric vehicles and maintaining a dominant position in the rapidly changing Indian automotive industry.

The company began to make waves with the introduction of the Tata 407 Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) in 1986. In 1991, Tata Motors started producing passenger vehicles (PVs) in India. In the following years, the PVs section expanded throughout other countries, much like its CV branch had done. The company was listed on stock exchanges on August 22, 1995, following its IPO.

The company has operations in India, the UK, South Korea, South Africa, China, Brazil, Austria and Slovakia through a strong global network of subsidiaries, associate companies and Joint Ventures (JVs), including Jaguar Land Rover in the UK and Tata Daewoo in South Korea. In FY 2023, the company has been ranked number 1 as an SUV maker in India for consecutively 2 years.

In July 2023, Tata Motors announced the swapping of DVR shares into ordinary shares. It will issue 7 fully paid-up new ordinary shares with a face value of ₹2 for every 10 ‘A’ ordinary shares with a face value of ₹2. This issuance will serve as consideration for the reduction and cancellation of the ‘A’ ordinary shares.
