About ITI
History
ITI Limited is the leading provider of telecom solutions covering switching, transmission, access equipment, etc. ITI Ltd was incorporated on January 25, 1950. It was India’s first Public Sector Unit. In December 1992, it formed a joint venture, namely IT Communications Pte Ltd, Singapore, with Valvas and ISL. In 1995-96, the company inaugurated the country’s first computerised trunk manual exchange at Cuttack. They also indigenously developed, manufactured and installed the Army Static Switched Communication Network (ASCON) for the Indian Army.
In 2003-04, the company introduced new products in the BSNL Network, namely, a managed leased line network, a digital loop carrier SDH, CDMA-based fixed wireless terminals, and mobile terminals. They entered the IT segment by supplying smart card-based pay phones, SIM cards, Info Kiosks, narrow-brand remote access servers, and MPLS routers. Also, they signed an MoU with BSNL for a revenue-sharing project for running Broadband VSAT services. In 2009-10, the company, in collaboration with the Alphion Corporation, USA, deployed the G-Pon Technology in the BSNL Network. In June 2009, the company set up its own Date Centre in the Bangalore Plant in association with Trimax Date Centre Services Ltd.
In 2015-16, ITI implemented GSM projects in an alliance with M/s Alcatel-Lucent and M/s Huawei. The company commissioned an EMI/EMC Lab Chamber and Test System in June 2019. It set up a Safety Lab service, effective from June 2019. It developed products in areas such as Encryption Systems for Defence, Power Supply Modules, etc. In 2023, the Company manufactured Encrytpor’s for Defence, Laptop / PC, Solar Panels, High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Optical Fiber Cable, Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS), etc at its various units.

- Turnkey projects – Some of the major projects undertaken by the company include:
- BharatNet – This union government project aims to provide high-speed broadband connectivity to over 250,000 Gram Panchayats in India. The company also implements GujNet and MahaNet orders under the BharatNet Phase II. It also provides third-party audit services for implementing BharatNet in the states of Jharkhand and Odisha.
- E-Governance Projects – It offers services for e-Governance projects like NPR and SECC projects.
- ASCON – It provides maintenance service for the Indian Army’s modern communication network across India.
- Network for Spectrum (NFS) – It involves installing optical fiber cables in East and North-East India.
- Services – Services offered by the company include:
- Assembled and tested various flight packages for VSSC.
- Contract manufacturing and telecom equipment testing services.
- IT products and services
- Component Screening Lab
- Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC) and Operation & Maintenance Contracts (O&M)
- Products – This includes various telecom products such as data centres and Saas packages.
In terms of earnings, the company made 72% of its revenue from turnkey projects, 24% from repairing and maintenance services and 4% from manufacturing products in FY 2021.
43% of its orders came from the Ministry of Defence, 42% from public sector units, 12% from state governments and the rest from other private and government agencies.
