Helios Capital Asset Management (India) Pvt. Ltd., known as Helios India, is a Mumbai-based company that manages assets. It’s approved by the Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to manage Portfolio Management Services (PMS) and Alternative Investment Funds (AIF). It also oversees the investment strategies for Helios Mutual Fund’s schemes.
The company’s parent organisation, Helios Capital Management Pte. Ltd., or Helios Singapore, focuses on India and is based in Singapore. It has a license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore for capital market services and is also recognised by SEBI in India as a Foreign Portfolio Investor. Additionally, Helios Singapore is the main supporter of Helios Mutual Fund.
Helios was established in 2005 by Samir Arora, who has been the Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager of the Helios Strategic Fund since it started. The other founders are Dave Williams, who was in charge of Alliance Capital Management in New York from 1977 to 1999, and Karan Trehan, who led Alliance Capital International from 1990 to 2000. These founders were among the first to start a private sector asset management company (AMC) in India in 1994, named Alliance Capital Asset Management India Pvt. Ltd.
Since its inception, Helios has consistently invested in its team, technology, and operational processes. In 2020, the company began managing funds in India under PMS/AIF rules, having conducted research in India since 2005. A significant milestone was achieved in August 2023, when it got the green light from SEBI to start a mutual fund in India.
By launching its mutual fund business in India, Helios aims to reach a wider range of investors. This expansion is expected to strengthen the company and offer valuable opportunities for growth and learning for its investment and support teams, most of whom are based in India.
Helios Mutual Fund has an AUM of ₹990.43 crores as of March 6, 2024. Helios offers 2 fund schemes: a flexicap fund and an overnight fund. Helios has a team of more than 50 people working mainly in two key offices: Singapore and Mumbai.
