History of the Nagarjuna Group
Nagarjuna Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (NFCL) is an Indian company that was founded in 1973. Although it started out with the manufacturing of steel, the company manufactures fertilisers and other agricultural products. The plant nutrition business was started in 1985 with Nagarjuna Fertilisers and Chemicals Ltd. In 2012, the company entered the billion-dollar league in the crop nutrition business.
The company's founder was a visionary who believed that India needed to be self-sufficient in food production. He saw fertilisers as a key input for increasing agricultural productivity. NFCL was one of the first companies in India to start manufacturing fertilisers.
The company has since grown into a leading player in the Indian fertiliser industry. It has a wide range of products, including urea, diammonium phosphate (DAP), and Muriate of Potash (MOP). NFCL also has a number of joint ventures with other companies, such as Tata Chemicals and Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO). In 1995, the Group entered into the energy sector with Nagarjuna Power Corporation Limited.
