What is TDS
नमस्कार मित्रो। एंजेल वन के इस podcast में आपका स्वागत है ।

Kaafi logo ko jitna darr jungli janwaro aur garajte badalo se lagta hai, usse kahi zyada darr sarkari short-forms se lagta hai. Aisa ek short form hai TDS. Koii bhi newly salaried employee ke liye TDS kya hai, ye jaan na zaroori hai. Kaafi log apne career ke advanced station mein pahunche ke baad bhi theek se nahi samajte ki aakhir ye TDS hai kya cheez. Ye podcast har tax amateur, aur kaafi experienced logo ko bhi, useful lagega.

TDS ka fullform hai Tax Deducted at Source. TDS is a form of advanced tax. Advance Tax are taxes which are not paid at the end of the financial year - they are paid throughout the year. Advance tax exists kyunki government ke paas bhi kaafi expenses hote hai. The government needs to spend on welfare programs, infrastructure expansion, sudden emergencies, loan repayment, etc. To fund these expenses, the government wants its citizens to pay advance tax. Through this system, the citizens pay their annual tax liabilities throughout the year in installments.

TDS is a very convenient form of advance tax because TDS automatically deduct ho jaata hai. This removes the need for the individual to calculate his tax liability and transfer the funds himself. TDS is deducted on various types of financial transactions. The two most common payments on which TDS is applicable are salaries and interest repayments by banks.

Typical TDS rate 10% hai. But if your employer does not have your Permanent Account Number, then they can also charge a TDS upto 20%. Therefore it is important to submit all your relevant information to your employer.

TDS ek blanket rule nahi hai, isleye ye har payment par apply nahi karta. Supermarket mein aap groceries khareed te waqt TDS kaat kat counter par payment nahi karte. Similarly, a doctor or a lawyer gives you a bill, you do not deduct the TDS before making the payment. Another exception would be the payment of rent - TDS does not apply when rent upto 50,000 is paid by the tenant to the landowner.

The party that deducts the TDS is called the deductor. The deductor is required to pay the TDS to the government by 7th of the month after which the payment was transferred. Matlab ki agar aapka employer 1st March ko TDS kaat kar aapki salary transfer karta hai, toh ye TDS government ko 7th April tak pahunch jaana chahiye.

Since TDS is deducted automatically, sometimes tax may be deducted where it is not applicable. Jinka purchasing power kam hai, unn logo par additional financial burden nahi daal ne ke liye government ek particular income level tak tax nahi lagati. Agar inn logo ki salary ya phir fixed deposit ki interest income par TDS lagta hai, then these people are eligible to get their money returned.

For this, they need to file a 15G form. Maan lijiye ki ek Indian working adult, Mansi, ki taxable income 2.5 lakhs se kam hai. Mansi ko apne fixed deposit account par interest income milti hai, and the bank is deducting TDS on this income. Now Mansi can file the form 15G with the bank to request them to not deduct the TDS when transferring her interest income.

Agar Mansi Form 15G time par nahi submit kar paayi, toh wo income tax returns file karke bhi TDS refund le sakti hai. To do this, Mansi must submit a TDS certificate to the income tax department. Income Tax Returns file karne se do din hafte pehle Mansi apne bank se ye TDS certificate le sakti hai.
