Indian markets are likely to open negative tracking global indices and SGX Nifty.

The US stocks attempted to recover from early selloff during trading on Thursday but pulled back once again to end the session sharply lower. The major averages closed lower for the sixth straight session with the Dow tumbling to its lowest closing level in six months. The Dow nosedived by 4.4 percent to 25767 and the Nasdaq fell by a heavier 4.6 percent to 8566.

UK stocks fell sharply on Thursday as two more patients tested positive for coronavirus in England bringing total number of U.K. cases to 15. The benchmark FTSE100 tumbled by 3.5 percent to 6796.

On domestic front Indian shares fell for the fifth day running on Thursday with weak global cues due to the spread of coronavirus cases and the expiry of February series derivative contracts weighing on markets. The benchmark BSE Sensex fell by 0.4 percent to 39746.
