U.S. stocks closed higher Thursday with earningsinspired gains by Cisco and Wal
Mart helping to set the pace while House passage of a Republicansponsored tax
cut plan helped cement the rally. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA ended
with a gain of 0.8% at 23458 after rising as much as 221 points earlier in the
session. The SP 500 SPX climbed 0.8% to finish at 2585. The techheavy
NASDAQ jumped 1.3% to finish at a record 6793.
U.K. stocks closed higher on Thursday boosted by a round of wellreceived
corporate updates and as buyers stepped in to pick up shares after a fivesession
losing streak. The FTSE 100 added 0.2% to end at 7387.
Indian shares staged a strong comeback on Thursday after three days of losses with
firm global cues and expectations for further rationalization of Goods and Services
