Technology major Google on Wednesday announced a grant worth ₹85 crore to non-profit organisation Wadhwani AI to expand the use of artificial intelligence across government-owned education and development platforms, as per news reports.
The initiative aims to improve learning outcomes and support millions of students, educators and early-career professionals across India.
Through the funding, Google targets to support 75 million students, 1.8 million educators and nearly one million early-career professionals by the end of 2027.
The programme will strengthen public digital infrastructure tools such as POSHAN Tracker and SWAYAM, enabling improved access to high-quality education from early childhood to higher education.
The initiative has already reached around 10 million students and educators, and will deploy voice-based AI solutions to help students develop oral reading skills across 10 Indian languages.
“We have tools like the POSHAN Tracker, SWAYAM, and more, and the aim is to strengthen these existing public infrastructure tools and platforms and deliver truly high quality learning experiences from early childhood through higher education,” said Preeti Lobana, vice-president and country manager of Google India.
Google also introduced a new Gemini-based feature in collaboration with edtech firms PhysicsWallah and Careers360 to enable students to attempt JEE Mains mock tests.
Additionally, the company announced partnerships with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU), Meerut, to establish India’s first AI-enabled university.
