Adani Defence and Aerospace and Brazil’s Embraer are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on January 27, 2026, in New Delhi to set up a final assembly line (FAL) for civilian aircraft in India, as per PTI report.

The signing is scheduled in the presence of Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, according to reports.

Scope of the Project

The FAL is planned for Embraer’s commercial aircraft with seating capacity of up to 150 passengers.

The project would mark Adani Group’s entry into aircraft manufacturing. Sources said the group could later consider manufacturing aircraft components once the assembly line is operational.

India’s Aviation Market Demand

India is among the fastest-growing civil aviation markets, supported by rising passenger traffic, fleet expansion by airlines and an increase in operational airports.

Embraer has said India may require at least 500 aircraft in the 80-146 seat segment over the next 20 years, showing demand on regional and short-haul routes.

Embraer’s Existing Operations

Embraer’s E-Jets began operations in India in 2005. The company currently has close to 50 aircraft in the country, serving the Indian Air Force, government agencies, business jet operators and regional airline Star Air.

In October 2025, Embraer opened an office in New Delhi to support its commercial and defence activities.

Defence Links and Presence

In 2024, Embraer Defence & Security signed an MoU with Mahindra Defence Systems to evaluate participation in the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft programme using the C-390 Millennium platform.

Embraer has said it aims to expand across commercial aviation, defence, business aviation, services and support, and urban air mobility in India.

Conclusion

The proposed assembly line would add to efforts to localise aircraft manufacturing in India and indicates continued interest from global aerospace companies in the domestic aviation market.
