Deepinder Goyal's startup, Temple, has unveiled compelling results from recent research focusing on their head-mounted heart rate tracker.

The device claims to have proven highly accurate in measuring heart rate, especially during physical activities like badminton.

Temple's New Tech Outshines Conventional Trackers

On April 14, 2026, Deepinder Goyal announced that Temple's wearable device had demonstrated significant accuracy in heart rate measurement.

The study involved Temple's head-mounted heart rate tracker, a reputable Polar HR system, and a popular screenless wrist tracker.

The results indicated that Temple's device recorded heart rate at 142.1 BPM, nearly equivalent to Polar's 141.4 BPM, while the wrist tracker lagged at 120.5 BPM.

Why Temple's Tracker Performed Better

According to Goyal, the superior performance of Temple's device is attributed to its strategic positioning on the forehead.

The temple region offers advantages due to its thinner skin and rich blood vessel network, allowing optical sensors to capture blood flow with greater precision.

Additionally, this area remains relatively stable compared to the wrist, reducing motion interference during activities.

Implications for Wearable Technology

The findings suggest a rapidly evolving trend in the wearable technology sector, with companies exploring alternatives to conventional wrist-worn devices for more reliable health monitoring.

Industries are adapting to emerging wearable formats, including smart rings and audio-based monitors, which provide options beyond traditional models.

Expanding Temple's Capabilities

Besides heart rate monitoring, Goyal hinted at Temple's potential to measure cerebral blood flow, promising greater insights into individual health metrics.

This development follows a $54 million (₹493 crore) seed funding round, valuing the startup at $190 million (₹1,700 crore) as of February.

Conclusion

Temple's advancements in wearable technology, demonstrating accuracy in aligning with established gold standards, signal a significant shift in health monitoring practices. The emphasis on more reliable and less obtrusive wearable devices may redefine consumer expectations in the tech market.
