The festive spirit is high as Diwali 2025 approaches, bringing a short pause in trading activity across the BSE and NSE. Investors and traders should note the special stock market holidays during Diwali week to plan their trades accordingly. Both exchanges will remain closed for Diwali Laxmi Pujan, and Balipratipada.
The Diwali festivities begin on October 18 with Dhanteras, a day devoted to Goddess Lakshmi. As Dhanteras falls on a Saturday, both BSE and NSE will remain closed, followed by the regular Sunday holiday on October 19. Normal trading will resume on Monday, October 20, 2025.
The stock market will remain closed again on Tuesday, October 21, for Diwali Laxmi Pujan, one of the most significant days of the festival. However, traders can participate in the special Muhurat Trading session, a symbolic trading window conducted every Diwali to mark the start of the Hindu New Year – Vikram Samvat 2082.
The Muhurat Trading session will be held on October 21, 2025, from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, with a pre-opening session at 1:30 pm. This one-hour session is considered auspicious and is believed to bring prosperity and good fortune to investors.

After Diwali Laxmi Pujan, the next market holiday will be on Wednesday, October 22, for Balipratipada, as mentioned in the official exchange calendar. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also remain closed on October 21 and 22 for both morning and evening sessions.
After the Diwali holidays, the next stock market holiday will fall on November 5, marking Prakash Gurpurab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The final holiday of the year will be on December 25, 2025, for Christmas.
As the markets take a festive break for Diwali 2025, traders and investors should plan their activities in advance. With BSE and NSE closed for Dhanteras, Diwali, and Balipratipada, and Muhurat Trading set for October 21, this week marks a blend of tradition, celebration, and financial optimism.
