On Monday, September 7, 2026, the NIFTY50 index opened at 23,883.15 and went on to register an intraday high of 23,890.00. The index faced downward pressure throughout the session, hitting an intraday low of 23,737.90 before closing at 23,779.15, down by 118.55 points or 0.50%. 

Advance Decline Ratio of NIFTY50 on September 7, 2026 

The advance-decline ratio for the NIFTY50 index turned visibly weak, with only 13 constituents out of the 50 ending the session in the green, while 37 closed in negative territory and 0 remained unchanged.

Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited (APOLLOHOSP) emerged as the top gainer on September 7, 2026, with its share price rising 1.27% to ₹8,760.00 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 3,03,793 shares. 

Larsen & Toubro Limited (LT) ranked second among the top gainers, with its share price advancing 0.88% to ₹3,999.00 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 12,56,111 shares. 

Coal India Limited (COALINDIA) was the third top gainer, with its share price gaining 0.84% to ₹418.85 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 1,35,91,889 shares. 

Top Losers on September 7, 2026 

Infosys Limited (INFY) ended lower by 3.76% at ₹1,087.50 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 75,02,393 shares. 

HDFC Life Insurance Company Limited (HDFCLIFE) share price declined 2.42% to ₹533.20 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 10,47,040 shares. 

Jio Financial Services Limited (JIOFIN) shares fell 2.13% to ₹234.40 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 98,40,364 shares.

Conclusion 

The NIFTY50 index closed lower by 0.50% at 23,779.15. The market breadth remained weak with a negative advance-decline setup as 37 index heavyweights closed down. APOLLOHOSP, LT, and COALINDIA emerged as the top gainers, while INFY, HDFCLIFE, and JIOFIN were among the top losers on September 7, 2026.
