India’s automotive industry is celebrating its most successful Dhanteras ever, with over 1,00,000 passenger vehicles expected to be delivered across the two-day festive period. The combined retail value of these deliveries is estimated at ₹8,000–₹8,500 crore, marking a historic moment for the sector driven by festive optimism, GST 2.0-led affordability, and strong consumer confidence.
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is leading the festive surge with an estimated 51,000 vehicle deliveries, its highest-ever for a single festive period. The company reported completing around 41,000 deliveries on Dhanteras day itself, with another 10,000 expected on the following day.
Since the announcement of GST 2.0 price cuts, Maruti Suzuki has seen 4.5 lakh bookings, including 1 lakh small cars. The brand’s festive-period retails have already crossed 3.25 lakh units, which is over 50% higher than last year. Production teams have been operating through the weekend to meet the unprecedented demand.
Hyundai Motor India is also witnessing robust festive momentum, expecting to complete around 14,000 deliveries, reflecting 20% growth year-on-year. The company attributes the strong response to festive cheer, market buoyancy, and policy-driven affordability under GST 2.0.
Tata Motors, meanwhile, expects to deliver over 25,000 vehicles between Dhanteras and Diwali, translating to a 30% year-on-year sales increase. Popular models such as the Nexon and Punch have led the charge, supported by extended dealership hours and strong customer turnout across cities.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Kia India have together added over 35,000 deliveries to the festive tally. Toyota’s hybrid range and Fortuner, Mahindra’s Scorpio-N and XUV700, and Kia’s Seltos and Sonet have been top choices among buyers this season.

With demand expected to stay high through Diwali and beyond, automakers believe this festive season could mark the strongest-ever quarter in India’s automotive history, led by Maruti Suzuki’s record-breaking performance.
