Aircraft Maker Airbus Opens Bengaluru GCC as India Sourcing Crosses $1.5 Billion

Aircraft manufacturer Airbus has opened a new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru, expanding its engineering and technology operations in India. The development comes as the company’s annual sourcing from Indian suppliers has crossed $1.5 billion.
As per the news reports, the facility was inaugurated on March 6, 2026. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Industries Minister MB Patil attended the event, while Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu joined virtually.
Large Campus and Consolidated Operations
The new Airbus India Technology Centre spans around 880,000 square feet and can accommodate up to 5,000 employees. Airbus said the campus brings several functions together under 1 location.
Engineering, digital services, procurement, and customer support teams will operate from the facility. The centre is among the company’s larger engineering and digital sites outside Europe.
Airbus has had engineering operations in Bengaluru for more than 2 decades. Over time, the local presence has expanded from a smaller specialised unit into a technology base.
Role in Engineering and Technology Work
Engineers and technical teams at the centre contribute to Airbus commercial aircraft and helicopter programmes. Their work includes design support, technical services, and system maintenance activities.
Teams in India are also involved in areas related to aviation technology, including cyber security, robotics and artificial intelligence used in aircraft systems.
The Bengaluru campus will also host a customer services centre. This unit supports Airbus operators worldwide with maintenance guidance, technical support, and flight-hour service programmes.
Procurement from Indian Suppliers
Airbus has increased its procurement from Indian suppliers in recent years. Annual sourcing from India has grown from about $500 million in 2019 to more than $1.5 billion currently.
The company expects sourcing from the country to exceed $2 billion before the end of the decade.
More than 100 Indian companies are part of Airbus’ supplier network. These firms manufacture aircraft components such as flap track beams, aircraft doors, and helicopter fuselage structures.
Links to Aircraft Projects in India
Indian suppliers also support Airbus programmes taking place in the country. One example is the Airbus C295 military transport aircraft assembly line located in Vadodara.
Suppliers are also connected to the H125 helicopter facility in Vemagal near Bengaluru, which manufactures helicopter structures and components.
