Airbus is scaling up its India manufacturing footprint with plans to produce 10 H125 helicopters per year by 2029 from its newly inaugurated Final Assembly Line in Karnataka, signalling long-term confidence in the country’s civil aviation potential, as per PTI report.
The Final Assembly Line at Vemagal, set up with Tata Advanced Systems Ltd, was inaugurated on 17 February 2026 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron. The first helicopter from the facility is scheduled for delivery in early 2027.
Airbus Helicopters CEO Bruno Even said, “We strongly believe in the potential of the helicopter market in India... H125 helicopters can be a key enabler to boost this civil helicopter market.” Annual output is expected to gradually rise to 10 helicopters by 2029, with units also earmarked for export to South Asian markets.
The company is also evaluating the production of the military variant H125M at the same facility.
Positioning helicopters as critical infrastructure assets, Even stated, “We are convinced that a helicopter is a tool for nation building... a helicopter can play a key role for public services.” He highlighted applications including regional connectivity, disaster response and mission-critical services.
India currently has relatively low helicopter density. More than 100 Airbus helicopters, including H125, H130, H135, Dauphin and H145 models, are already operating across sectors in the country.
The H125, part of the Ecureuil family, has accumulated over 40 million flight hours globally and remains the only helicopter to have landed on the summit of Mount Everest.
Airbus established a dedicated India customer centre in 2010 and sources components and services worth over $1.5 billion annually from India, including complex aerostructures and systems.
Beyond the Karnataka helicopter line, Airbus and Tata Advanced Systems also operate a Final Assembly Line for C295 military transport aircraft in Vadodara, Gujarat.
The company indicated it will support financing discussions for Indian customers to facilitate wider adoption of helicopters.

With production scaling to 10 units annually by 2029 and export plans underway, Airbus’ H125 programme marks a significant expansion of India’s aerospace manufacturing ecosystem, reinforcing the country’s role in regional helicopter supply and advanced aviation capabilities.
