Tamil Nadu Govt Unveils Special Fund of ₹2,000 to 37.79 Lakh Marginalised Beneficiaries

On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin announced the allocation of a special fund of ₹2,000 to the bank accounts of 37.79 lakh individuals from marginalised sections of society, as per PTI reports.
This initiative aims to alleviate the financial difficulties faced by these groups.
Special Fund Distribution to Marginalised Groups
The Tamil Nadu government has credited ₹2,000 to the bank accounts of 37.79 lakh people from marginalised communities.
This financial assistance is intended to provide relief to the elderly, widows, aged transgenders, and persons with disabilities, supplementing their existing monthly pensions.
Following requests for additional support, the government has responded with this special fund, which is part of a broader effort to address the needs of vulnerable groups in the state.
Previous Initiatives and Current Support
This latest funding follows the distribution of a ₹2,000 special summer package provided to women in February under the 'Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai' scheme. The initiative prompted further requests from other vulnerable groups for similar assistance.
In addition to the ₹2,000 fund, the government has transferred ₹3,200 to 29.29 lakh beneficiaries, including senior citizens and widows, who are already receiving benefits under various social security schemes.
Additional Support for Persons with Disabilities
The government has also distributed ₹3,500 each to 5.92 lakh people with disabilities. Furthermore, 2.58 lakh families of persons with disabilities receiving maintenance assistance have been credited with ₹4,000 each.
Support for Fishing Households and Tea Farmers
To support fishing households during the annual fishing ban from April to June, ₹8,000 has been provided to 1.62 lakh households.
Additionally, a special fund of ₹8.53 crore has been released to assist 14,870 tea farmers in the Nilgiris district, offering a base price of ₹2 per kilo for green tea leaves procured through cooperative tea factories.
Conclusion
The Tamil Nadu government's recent allocation of funds to marginalised beneficiaries underscores its commitment to addressing financial hardships faced by vulnerable groups. By providing targeted support to various sections of society, the government aims to ensure inclusive progress across the state.
