History of FSN E-Commerce Ventures (Nykaa)

Incorporated on April 24, 2012, FSN E-Commerce Ventures, popularly known as Nykaa, is an e-commerce retail platform. The company manufactures, sells and distributes beauty, fitness, wellness, personal care, skincare, health care, and hair care products in online and offline stores. Nykaa launched its IPO on October 28, 2021, and was listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) on November 10, 2021.   As of March 2023, there were more than 140 physical stores of Nykaa located across 60 cities in India. Over 3,400 authentic domestic, international, and luxury brands are listed on the platform. Nykaa was recognised with several awards, including the Retailer of the Year 2020 by ET Now Global Awards for Retail Excellence, IBG Annual Business Excellence Awards (startup category) by the India Business Group, Health & Beauty Retailer of the Year at the Star Retailer Awards in 2017 and many more. 

Business Segments of Nykaa

There are 2 business verticals of Nykaa, which include:
  • Nykaa Beauty: It offers beauty and personal care products from various brands all over the world. Along with several brands, the company also manufactures their own beauty and personal care products through third-party manufacturers. These products are available at Nykaa’s online and offline stores. 
  • Nykaa Fashion: This was launched in 2018. They offer fashion and lifestyle products that cater to men, women and children. There are over 2,850 brands listed on Nykaa Fashion. 
The subsidiary companies under Nykaa include:
  • Nykaa E-Retail Private Limited: This wholly subsidiary of Nykaa operates mainly using an inventory-led model. It purchases wellness, hygiene and beauty products directly from the manufacturers and sells them.
  • FSN Brands Marketing Private Limited: This is a 100% subsidiary of Nykaa that imports, purchases, sells and distributes wellness, beauty, personal care, skin care, etc., products through general and modern trade.
  • Nykaa Fashion Private Limited: This wholly-owned subsidiary of the company sells and distributes fashion accessories and garments on their online platforms.
  • Dot & Key Wellness Private Limited: Nykaa holds a 51% stake in this company that manufactures, markets, and sells personal care, skin care and nutraceutical products, like toners, serums, cleansers, etc.

Falguni Nayar, Founder, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Falguni Nayar is the Founder, MD and CEO of Nykaa. Previously, she was the Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Capital Company. During her career span, she received several accolades and recognitions. In 2022, she was on the Forbes list of 100 Most Powerful Women. She is also part of several boards, such as Dabur India and Aviva Insurance, and also as an Independent Member of the Tata Motors Board.
