Tata Power has brought the 400 kV Koteshwar–Rishikesh transmission line into operation, as per press release.
The line is built to carry 1,000 MW of hydropower from the Tehri-Koteshwar generation complex in Uttarakhand, creating another route for moving electricity into the northern grid.
According to the company’s statement, the new link will supply multiple states and Union Territories. These include Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Delhi.
The corridor adds to existing transmission options used to balance regional demand and manage power availability across different seasons.
The project runs through sections of the Himalayan region in New Tehri and Dehradun. Construction teams worked at altitudes above 1,816 metres, where access roads, tower placement and equipment movement required additional planning.
Weather conditions and steep gradients influenced the pace and sequencing of the work.
The transmission line falls under NRSS XXXVI Transmission Ltd. NRSS was acquired by Resurgent Power Ventures Pte Ltd, a joint venture promoted by Tata Power, ICICI Bank and global investors.
The ownership setup brought the transmission asset under a unified operational framework during development and commissioning.
Role in the Northern Grid
The Tehri-Koteshwar complex is one of the major hydropower sources feeding North India. With the Koteshwar–Rishikesh line now active, grid operators have another channel for moving up to 1,000 MW of renewable electricity to states dependent on inter-state flows.
The line supports routing flexibility at a time when consumption patterns continue to shift across the region.

As of December 10, 2025, 9:44 am, Tata Power share price was trading at ₹381.75, a 1.46% increase from the previous closing price.
The commissioning adds a high-voltage link to the northern transmission system. By connecting a key hydropower site to several states and UTs, the project increases the network capacity available for distributing electricity across the region.
