SJVN is set to bring the second 660 MW unit of its Buxar Thermal Power Project into commercial operation at midnight on September 12, 2026, as per the exchange filing. The unit is being commissioned through SJVN Thermal Private Limited, the company's wholly owned subsidiary.

Located at Chausa in Bihar's Buxar district, the project has two units of 660 MW each, giving it a total capacity of 1,320 MW. With Unit-II entering commercial operation, both units of the project will be covered under the company's operating capacity.

Buxar Project Uses Supercritical Technology

The plant has been developed using supercritical technology, which SJVN says provides higher efficiency and lower environmental impact.

The project is designed to generate 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually.

85% Power Allocated to Bihar

A major share of the electricity from the project has already been allocated to Bihar. 85% of the power is tied to the state under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement.

SJVN said the project will add to power availability in Bihar as well as the Eastern Region, including during periods of peak-hour demand.

Unit-II To Start from September 12, 2026

The commercial operation of Unit-II is scheduled on September 12, 2026. SJVN Thermal Private Limited is implementing the project on behalf of SJVN.

The September 11 filing does not give details on the project's revenue contribution, tariff, profitability or any separate financial impact from Unit-II.
