Zomato, owned by Eternal, has started levying an additional ₹5 fee on orders where customers choose cash on delivery, according to The Moneycontrol report.

The charge appears as a separate “Pay on delivery fee” in the bill summary on the food delivery platform.

Charges Vary for Some Users

The fee is being added to orders where customers pay in cash when the food arrives. While ₹5 is the reported charge, listings reviewed by Moneycontrol showed some users being charged ₹7 and, in certain cases, as much as ₹20.

The cash-on-delivery fee is separate from Zomato’s platform fee, restaurant packaging charges, and GST. Customers who pay online do not incur this particular charge.

Revenue Impact at Scale

As per the report, Zomato processes an estimated 2.3-2.5 million food orders a day. A ₹5 charge across all orders would theoretically amount to ₹1.15-1.25 crore in additional revenue per day, or around ₹420-456 crore on an annual basis.

The calculation represents an upper limit, as cash-on-delivery orders make up only a portion of Zomato’s total order volumes. It nevertheless indicates the potential contribution of small transaction-level charges at the platform’s scale.

Platform Fee Also Increased

Zomato’s cash-on-delivery fee follows the introduction and subsequent increase in platform charges across food delivery. In April 2023 that platforms had begun introducing such fees, with Swiggy testing a ₹2 charge.

Zomato later introduced its own platform fee. The charge was increased to ₹14.99 per order earlier this year from ₹12.5, with GST levied separately.

Competition in Food Delivery

The new charge comes as competition in the food delivery market increases. Rapido’s Ownly is gaining traction, while Flipkart is piloting its Eat In food delivery offering. Startup Swish has also raised fresh funding.

Eternal Share Price Performance

As of September 11, 2026, 3:30 pm, Eternal share price closed at ₹322.75, up 0.20% from the previous closing price.

Conclusion

The cash-on-delivery fee adds another charge to Zomato’s food orders. The actual revenue contribution will depend on the proportion of customers continuing to use cash payments.
