As per NDTV Profit report, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has taken an early lead in India's tokenised corporate debt market by raising ₹500 crore through a three-year bond. The transaction makes L&T the country's first private-sector corporate to issue a tokenised bond under SEBI's blockchain-based framework.

What makes the issue different is how the transaction was handled. Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) was used through the bond's lifecycle, while the funds were settled through a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet.

DLT Used Across The Bond Lifecycle

L&T used DLT infrastructure from the issuance stage through settlement. The company said the technology can simplify bond transactions while improving transparency and efficiency.

The transaction forms part of L&T's wider use of technology in capital raising and treasury operations.

Tokenised Bond Settled Through CBDC

The ₹500 crore raised in the issue was settled using a CBDC wallet. This brought tokenised securities and digital-currency-based settlement into the same transaction.

L&T said combining the two systems can support more seamless, secure and efficient digital capital-market transactions.

SEBI Framework Enables Tokenisation

Under SEBI's framework, eligible corporate bonds can be tokenised through DLT. In simple terms, the securities are represented digitally and transactions can take place using blockchain-based infrastructure.

The framework is intended to improve efficiency and transparency while encouraging greater digital participation in the corporate bond market.

L&T's Existing Debt Raising

The tokenised issue adds to L&T's existing debt-market activity. As of March 31, 2026, the company had ₹9,800 crore of outstanding non-convertible debentures and had raised ₹14,600 crore through listed commercial papers.

L&T reported standalone total income of ₹1.61 lakh crore in FY26, an increase of 8.68% from the previous year.

L&T Share Price Performance

As of 11 September 2026, Larsen & Toubro Ltd share price closed at ₹3,938.20 per share, reflecting a decline of 0.42% from the previous trading session.

Conclusion

L&T's ₹500 crore issuance puts a private-sector corporate at the forefront of India's tokenised bond market. The transaction combines DLT-based securities infrastructure with CBDC settlement, marking another use of digital technology in corporate fundraising.
