Interglobe Aviation (IndiGo) Share Price in Focus; Targets 40% International Capacity by FY30

As per a CNBC TV28 report, IndiGo expects international operations to account for about 40% of its total capacity by FY30, CEO Willie Walsh said at the airline’s Annual General Meeting.
The airline is working towards a larger long-haul network alongside its domestic and short-haul international operations. According to Walsh, a new overseas capacity will be added only where it makes business sense.
A350 Introduction Planned From 2028
Walsh said the introduction of the Airbus A350 would be the most significant development for IndiGo over the next five years.
The airline has 60 Airbus A350-900 aircraft on order, with the first deliveries expected from 2028. The aircraft will give IndiGo the ability to operate longer international routes.
The A350 fleet forms part of the airline's plans to increase its presence in overseas markets.
Operational Changes Underway
Walsh also spoke about the steps taken following the airline's earlier operational disruption. IndiGo has made changes to manpower planning and crew rostering and introduced formal checks on roster quality.
Dedicated crisis directors have been appointed to handle disruptions, with a published weekly roster providing round-the-clock coverage.
The airline has also created a disruption management group and increased manpower and crew resources at its operations control centre.
Pilot Numbers and Duty Rules
IndiGo has more than 6,000 pilots and added over 330 during the financial year. Pilot attrition stood at around 3.7%, compared with overall employee attrition of approximately 12.3%.
The airline has introduced early-warning systems and predictive dashboards to help identify possible extensions to flight and duty times. It has also adjusted its network after the introduction of new flight duty time limitation rules.
Walsh said IndiGo is fully compliant with the new requirements.
AI and Maintenance Spending
The airline is using artificial intelligence in areas including customer service, contact centres and internal operations, with plans to increase its use.
IndiGo is also investing in maintenance, repair, and overhaul facilities. Walsh said bringing more maintenance work in-house could reduce costs paid to third-party suppliers and lower the airline's exposure to dollar-denominated expenses.
