Indian carriers IndiGo and SpiceJet have launched special relief operations to assist passengers stranded due to ongoing airspace disruptions in parts of the Middle East. The unexpected closure of certain airspace corridors has significantly affected international flight schedules, prompting swift action from airlines.
SpiceJet announced that it will operate four special flights from the United Arab Emirates on March 3. These flights will depart from Fujairah to Delhi, Mumbai, and Kochi, including two services to Mumbai, to facilitate the faster return of Indian nationals.
IndiGo has scheduled 10 special relief flights from Jeddah to India on March 3, subject to regulatory approvals and prevailing airspace conditions. The airline is working closely with the Consulate General of India in Jeddah to coordinate passenger movement and ensure smooth operations for stranded travelers.
From March 4, SpiceJet will resume its scheduled services between Fujairah–Delhi and Fujairah–Mumbai, aiming to restore normal connectivity between the UAE and India. The airline is also evaluating the possibility of adding more special flights depending on passenger demand and regulatory clearances.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has stated that it is closely monitoring the evolving airspace situation and assessing its impact on international operations. Airlines have implemented calibrated schedule adjustments, particularly for long-haul and ultra-long-haul routes, by adopting alternative routings that bypass restricted airspace.
In addition, carriers are repositioning aircraft and crew to stabilise operations and deploying extra capacity where necessary. Close coordination with foreign aviation authorities and Indian diplomatic missions abroad is underway to ensure safe and orderly travel arrangements.
