On October 26, 2025, Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) issued an official clarification in response to an article published by The Telegraph in the UK titled “M&S ousts Indian outsourcer accused of £300m cyberattack failures.” The company described the report as misleading and factually incorrect.
TCS stated that The Telegraph article contained inaccuracies concerning both the contract size and the continuity of its work with Marks & Spencer (M&S). According to TCS, the service desk contract with M&S had gone through a regular competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process that began in January 2025. M&S had already decided to partner with other vendors well before the cyber incident in April 2025, making the two matters unrelated.
The company also clarified that the service desk segment represents only a minor portion of its overall engagement with M&S. TCS continues to work closely with the British retailer across several other strategic areas, reinforcing their long-standing relationship.
TCS reaffirmed that it had conducted a thorough scan of its internal networks and systems following the reported cyber incident. The company concluded that the vulnerabilities did not originate from its infrastructure. It further highlighted that it does not provide cybersecurity services to M&S, as these are managed by another service partner.

Despite the misleading media reports, TCS reiterated its continued collaboration with M&S across multiple areas of digital transformation and business support. The company expressed pride in its enduring partnership, which remains unaffected by the isolated service desk transition.
TCS’s clarification underscores its commitment to transparency and factual accuracy. The company dismissed the claims made in The Telegraph article, confirming that its relationship with M&S remains strong and that it plays a key role as a trusted strategic partner for the retailer.
