Tata Electronics has confirmed a cybersecurity incident after a ransomware group allegedly published thousands of sensitive files linked to Apple and Tesla on the dark web, raising fresh concerns about supply chain security in India’s fast-growing electronics manufacturing sector.
The incident came to light after cybersecurity researchers reported that the ransomware group “World Leaks” had uploaded more than 2,00,000 files, amounting to over 630 GB of data, allegedly stolen from Tata Electronics systems. The leaked files reportedly include component designs, material specifications, manufacturing documents, emails, event logs, and employee records.
According to news reports, the leaked archive contains several files purportedly related to Apple’s manufacturing operations. Some folders reportedly carried names such as “com.apple.factorydata” and included documents related to material specifications and quality inspection standards for iPhone components.
The data dump also allegedly contained Tesla-related documents, including files linked to the company’s vehicle programs and component designs. Some of the documents reportedly carried confidentiality notices identifying them as proprietary information and trade secrets.
As per a Reuters news report, Tata Electronics said in a statement that it identified a cybersecurity incident on certain systems a few weeks ago and immediately activated its response protocols.
The company emphasized that the incident has not impacted its business operations and that manufacturing activities continue uninterrupted. However, sources familiar with the matter indicated that Apple is conducting a detailed investigation into the breach and that Tata Electronics reportedly received a ransom demand related to the incident.
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has not yet issued a public statement on the matter.
The breach comes at a crucial time for Tata Electronics, which has emerged as one of Apple’s most important manufacturing partners outside China. The company currently accounts for roughly one-third of Apple’s iPhone production in India, with the remainder largely handled by Foxconn.
The incident highlights the growing cybersecurity risks facing global supply chains as manufacturers increasingly digitize operations. For India, which is positioning itself as a major electronics manufacturing hub, the episode underscores the importance of strengthening cybersecurity frameworks alongside rapid industrial expansion.

While Tata Electronics maintains that its operations remain unaffected, the alleged exposure of sensitive Apple and Tesla-related documents has drawn significant attention from the global technology industry. As investigations continue, the incident is likely to intensify discussions around cybersecurity preparedness, data protection, and supply chain resilience across India's electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
