Stocks Under F&O Ban on Nifty Weekly Expiry
The NSE places a stock under the F&O ban when its open interest crosses 95% of the Market-Wide Position Limit (MWPL). The restriction applies only to fresh derivative positions. The shares can still be bought and sold in the cash market.
The stocks under the F&O ban on September 1, 2026, are:
1.LIC HOUSING FINANCE

2. SAIL

Why Are Stocks Put Under the F&O Ban?
The F&O ban is triggered when open interest in a stock's derivative contracts exceeds 95% of its MWPL. The rule is intended to keep excessive positions and speculative activity in check.
Once a stock enters the ban list, traders cannot take fresh F&O positions. Existing positions can be squared off or reduced. Violating the exchange rules can result in penalties.
The restriction becomes particularly relevant around expiry, when trading activity and volatility can rise sharply.
About Nifty Weekly Expiry
Nifty 50 Futures and Options contracts expire every Tuesday. When Tuesday is a trading holiday, the expiry moves to the previous trading day. Contracts are settled using the closing price on the expiry day.
Some trading platforms may show weekly contracts under a monthly section during expiry week. This is only a display arrangement and does not alter the actual expiry schedule.
