On August 31, 2026, The National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) has announced updated quantity freeze limits for derivatives contracts on indices, effective from September 1, 2026, as per the exchange filings.  

These changes are in accordance with the computation methodology outlined in the F&O consolidated circular dated April 28, 2026. 

Updated Quantity Freeze Limits 

Effective from September 1, 2026, the quantity freeze limits for various indices will be as follows: BANKNIFTY at 600, NIFTY at 1,800, FINNIFTY at 1,800, MIDCPNIFTY at 2,800, NIFTYNXT50 at 600, and NIFTYFPI at 8,500.  

These limits are set to regulate the maximum quantity of derivatives contracts that can be traded in a single order.

Implementation Instructions for Members 

Members are advised to update their trading applications with the latest contract files, available in the faoftp/faocommon directory on the Extranet server. The files can also be accessed on the NSE website under the derivatives section.
