The Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday cleared a proposal to raise ₹2,000 crore from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO), as per news reports. The money will be taken under the Urban Infrastructure Development Loan Scheme to provide financial support to municipal bodies for ongoing infrastructure projects.
Of the sanctioned amount, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation will access ₹822.22 crore for a water supply project. The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority has been allocated ₹268.84 crore for 4 sewage treatment plants. Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation will receive ₹116.28 crore for a water supply project.
The loan is aimed at ensuring the continuity of projects under central and state programmes. These include Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, and the Maharashtra Suvarna Jayanti Nagarothhan Maha Abhiyan. The decision is expected to prevent delays in work caused by a shortage of funds.
The cabinet also approved repair works for two old irrigation projects in Akola district’s Murtizapur taluka. The Ghongha micro-irrigation project, completed in 1986, has been sanctioned ₹4.76 crore for repairs. The work is expected to increase storage capacity by 35,000 cubic metres and add 45 hectares of irrigation potential.
The Kanadi micro-irrigation project, completed in 1977, will undergo repairs worth ₹4.92 crore. The plan will add 38,000 cubic metres of storage and extend irrigation capacity by 46 hectares.
