Flipkart Enters Food Delivery Market with 'Eat In', To Launch in Bengaluru

As per The Moneycontrol news report, Flipkart is moving into Bengaluru's competitive food delivery space with its new service, 'Eat In.'
This service is initially being tested among employees, with plans to extend it to a wider audience soon, adding to the market where Zomato and Swiggy are already prominent players.
Flipkart's Entry into the Food Delivery Market
Walmart-backed Flipkart has initiated testing of its 'Eat In' food delivery service among employees in Bengaluru. The aim is to eventually penetrate a consumer market currently dominated by Zomato and Swiggy.
Flipkart plans to roll out the service to all its employees by September 15, 2026, following which it will target consumers in Bengaluru.
The move comes during a competitive phase in the food delivery sector. Competitors such as Rapido are trying innovative business models, and Swiggy is appealing to price-sensitive users through its separate app, Toing.
Current Market Dynamics
As per the report, Rapido’s Ownly service, which utilises a zero-commission model, has reached approximately 50,000 daily orders, comprising around 10% of the city's order volume. Swiggy's Toing app has nearly matched Zomato's weekly active user base of 35 million, according to reports.
Flipkart's Strategy and Competitive Edge
CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy previously indicated in July 2026, the intent to explore food delivery on a small scale. Flipkart is set on providing not only cost benefits but also a selection of services, reliability, and a quality experience to its customers. The company is developing Eat In based on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to create a lower commission policy for partner restaurants.

Testing and Future Expectations
As per the report, the initial employee-centric rollout is strategically aimed at refining the service prior to meeting consumer demand. Flipkart's venture could alter the existing dynamics, currently led by Zomato and Swiggy, through adjustments in pricing and operational convenience.
Conclusion
Flipkart's 'Eat In' is set to test among staff, moving to consumer testing amid the evolving Bengaluru market. Current competition includes Rapido’s 50,000 daily orders and Swiggy Toing's large user base, with Flipkart leveraging ONDC for cost efficiency.
