On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, the NIFTY50 index opened at 23,522.05 and went on to register an intraday high of 23,571.55. The index faced downward pressure throughout the session, hitting an intraday low of 23,431.50 before closing at 23,431.50, down by 203.60 points or 0.86%. 

Advance Decline Ratio of NIFTY50 on September 9, 2026 

The advance-decline ratio for the NIFTY50 index turned visibly weak, with only 13 constituents out of the 50 ending the session in the green, while 36 closed in negative territory and 1 remained unchanged.

Adani Enterprises Limited (ADANIENT) emerged as the top gainer on September 9, 2026, with its share price rising 5.13% to ₹3,104.70 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 53,20,594 shares. 

Max Healthcare Institute Limited (MAXHEALTH) ranked second among the top gainers, with its share price advancing 4.48% to ₹1,037.50 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 45,91,285 shares. 

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (ADANIPORTS) was the third top gainer, with its share price gaining 3.80% to ₹1,775.00 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 55,27,528 shares. 

Top Losers on September 9, 2026 

Infosys Limited (INFY) ended lower by 4.34% at ₹1,035.00 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 1,35,30,457 shares. 

HDFC Life Insurance Company Limited (HDFCLIFE) share price declined 3.71% to ₹514.00 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 90,24,185 shares. 

HCL Technologies Limited (HCLTECH) shares fell 3.70% to ₹1,229.80 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 20,99,173 shares.

Conclusion 

The NIFTY50 index closed lower by 0.86% at 23,431.50. The market breadth remained weak with a negative advance-decline setup as 36 index heavyweights closed down. ADANIENT, MAXHEALTH, and ADANIPORTS emerged as the top gainers, while INFY, HDFCLIFE, and HCLTECH were among the top losers on September 9, 2026.
