Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has delivered Mahe, the first of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts (ASW-SWC), to the Indian Navy. The handover took place on October 23, 2025, at Kochi.

The acceptance documents were signed by S. Harikrishnan, Director (Operations) at CSL, and Commander Amit Chandra Choubey, Commanding Officer (Designate) of Mahe, in the presence of senior officials from both the Indian Navy and the shipyard.

Ship Details

The Mahe is 78 metres long and is the largest Indian naval ship to use a diesel engine–waterjet propulsion system. It has been designed and built by Cochin Shipyard following the Classification Rules of Det Norske Veritas (DNV). The vessel is part of a series of eight shallow water crafts being built for the Indian Navy.

Role and Operations

The ship has been developed for use in coastal and shallow water regions. It is equipped for underwater surveillance, search and rescue, and low-intensity maritime operations. It can also carry out anti-submarine warfare and mine-laying tasks, strengthening nearshore defence activities.

Indigenous Work

The vessel has been constructed with more than 90% indigenous content. It is one of several projects under the Navy’s effort to expand locally built defence assets. The remaining seven vessels of the ASW-SWC class are currently under construction at Cochin Shipyard and will be delivered in stages.

Delivery Event

The delivery event was attended by Rear Admiral R. Adhisrinivasan, Chief Staff Officer (Technical), Western Naval Command, and Commodore Anup Menon, Warship Production Superintendent, along with other senior officials. The signing of documents marked the formal handover of the vessel to the Indian Navy.
