Japanese auto giant Honda Motor Co Ltd has established a new subsidiary, Honda Finance India Pvt Ltd, to provide retail sales financing services in the country. The move aligns with Honda’s strategy to support its growing base of customers in India by offering convenient and accessible financial solutions.
Honda Finance India will offer loans and lease sales options for customers purchasing motorcycles, cars, and related services. By setting up its own financing arm, Honda aims to make vehicle ownership more seamless, especially as more Indian buyers turn to loans to fund purchases.
Traditionally, retail financing in India has been dominated by local financial institutions. However, with rising demand for two-wheelers and cars, Honda intends to strengthen its market presence by entering the financing ecosystem directly. The subsidiary will apply for an NBFC (Non-Banking Financial Company) license, after which it can begin operations.
Honda already operates financing subsidiaries across regions, including Japan, North America, and Europe. With the launch of Honda Finance India, the country becomes the ninth market where the automaker is offering localised financial services. This strategic expansion is expected to help Honda better support customers while boosting its own sales.
