Honda Cars India Hits 200,000 Unit Cumulative Export Milestone

As per the news reports, Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) announced that it has exported more than 2 lakh vehicles from its plants in India. The company started exports in 1999 and has since added multiple regions to its list of markets.
First 50,000 Units
As per the news reports, the initial 50,000 vehicles were shipped by 2021. These went mainly to neighbouring SAARC countries, South Africa, and other SADC nations. This period marked the base of HCIL’s export operations.
The following 50,000 exports were completed in about 2 and a half years. During this time, HCIL entered left-hand-drive markets such as Mexico, Turkiye, and parts of the Middle East. The Honda City sedan was the key model during this stage.
Growth in the Last Two Years
In just 2 years, another 1 lakh units were exported. This growth came from the demand for the mid-size SUV Honda Elevate, which is sold as the WR-V in Japan. Exports also increased to South American and Caribbean markets during this period
Honda City and Honda Elevate together make up 78% of HCIL’s total exports. The other 22% comes from models including Brio, Amaze, Jazz, BR-V, Mobilio, City e: HEV, Accord, and CR-V.
Export Markets
So far, HCIL has exported cars to 33 countries. Japan accounts for 30% of the share, South Africa and other SADC nations 26%, Mexico 19%, and Turkiye 16%. The remaining 9% is spread across markets in the Middle East, SAARC, South America, and the Caribbean.
