Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have been net sellers of Indian equities, offloading ₹60,270 crore in June 2026, as per a news report.
This trend has persisted throughout the year, with FPIs selling Indian shares every month except February.
Meanwhile, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) have continued to buy, purchasing ₹3,123.95 crore worth of shares.
FPIs have consistently sold Indian equities in 2026, with the exception of February. In January, FPIs sold shares worth ₹35,962 crore according to data on the NSDL.
February saw a reversal, with FPIs buying ₹22,615 crore, driven by improved risk sentiment in the geoeconomics space.
However, the US-Iran war in West Asia negatively impacted global risk sentiment, leading FPIs to resume selling.
In March, FPIs sold ₹1.18 lakh crore, marking the highest monthly selling. April saw further selling of ₹60,847 crore.
Despite the FPI outflows, DIIs have maintained their buying streak. On a recent trading day, DIIs purchased shares worth ₹3,123.95 crore, demonstrating their continued confidence in the Indian market.
Last week, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced new investment limits for FPIs in government securities and state development loans (SDLs) for FY27.
FPIs can invest up to ₹4.62 trillion in government securities during April-September 2026.

In 2026, FPIs have sold ₹2.85 lakh crore worth of Indian equities, with ₹60,270 crore offloaded in June alone. DIIs, however, have remained net buyers, purchasing ₹3,123.95 crore. The RBI has set new investment limits for FPIs in government securities and SDLs for FY27.
