Bharti Airtel, one of India’s leading telecommunications service providers, has announced a strategic partnership with IBM to strengthen and expand its Airtel Cloud platform. The collaboration, unveiled on October 15, 2025, combines Airtel’s telco-grade cloud reliability with IBM’s expertise in hybrid cloud, AI, and infrastructure solutions to support enterprise customers across regulated industries.
This partnership aims to integrate IBM’s cutting-edge software technologies and AI inferencing capabilities with Airtel Cloud’s secure and compliant infrastructure. Enterprises in sectors like banking, healthcare, and government will now be able to deploy IBM Power systems portfolio as-a-Service, including the latest IBM Power11 AI-ready servers for mission-critical workloads.
The collaboration also supports hybrid operations across multiple environments on-premise, in the cloud, and at the edge.
As part of the partnership, Airtel will expand its availability zones in India from 4 to 10, hosted within its next-generation sustainable data centres. Additionally, 2 new Multizone Regions (MZRs) will be established in Mumbai and Chennai to further strengthen data residency and operational resilience for Indian enterprises.
The enhanced infrastructure will ensure uninterrupted performance for mission-critical applications and meet stringent regulatory standards.

IBM’s WatsonX platform and Red Hat OpenShift AI will empower Airtel Cloud customers to manage AI workloads across hybrid environments efficiently. Clients will also benefit from Red Hat’s virtualisation and cloud solutions, as well as IBM’s automation portfolio designed to enhance generative AI integration into enterprise workflows. This move underscores Airtel’s vision to become India’s most comprehensive, AI-ready cloud service provider.
Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Bharti Airtel, emphasised that Airtel Cloud is built on agility, resilience, and compliance, setting new benchmarks for industry-grade cloud services. Rob Thomas, SVP and Chief Commercial Officer of IBM, highlighted that the collaboration will empower Indian enterprises to balance modernisation and regulatory needs while unlocking the full potential of AI in business operations.
