Businessman Anil Ambani, Chairman of the Reliance Group, has withdrawn his defamation suit filed in Delhi against media houses following a court decision refusing interim relief. The suit revolved around reports that claimed Reliance Group entities had committed fraud amounting to over ₹41,000 crore, as per The Live Law report.

Delhi Court Denies Interim Relief, Prompting Withdrawal

Senior Civil Judge Vivek Beniwal at the Karkardooma Courts, Delhi, declined to grant interim relief to Anil Ambani in a defamation case he had filed against multiple media organisations.

The case was based on allegations published in reports suggesting that companies led by Ambani had committed financial fraud totalling more than ₹41,000 crore.

Following this ruling, Ambani’s legal team decided to withdraw the civil suit. The court permitted the withdrawal and granted Ambani’s counsel the liberty to take legal recourse in the future if necessary.

Allegations of Fraud in Media Coverage

The defamation claim stemmed from reports suggesting that Ambani’s corporate entities had been involved in misappropriation of funds or fraudulent activities.

The figure quoted in these stories exceeded ₹41,000 crore, drawing widespread attention and resulting in significant reputational impact on the industrialist and his businesses.

Ambani contested the allegations and asserted that the reports were misleading and defamatory in nature.

Court Grants Liberty for Future Legal Action

While Ambani chose to withdraw the defamation suit, the court included an order allowing his legal counsel to initiate proceedings again, should circumstances warrant it.

This legal provision keeps the option open for any subsequent civil action regarding the contested publications.

No criminal proceedings are reported in this context as of now. The legal focus primarily rested on seeking a civil injunction and damages against the listed media organisations.

Conclusion

Anil Ambani has formally withdrawn his civil defamation case following the denial of interim relief by a Delhi court. The withdrawal applies to multiple media entities that published reports involving allegations of financial fraud amounting to ₹41,000 crore.
