The Odisha government has transferred ₹5,106.33 crore to more than 1 crore women under the Subhadra Yojana, as per PTI reports.
The payment was released on March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The amount was credited directly to beneficiaries through the direct benefit transfer (DBT) system.
The 4th instalment was released by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during a programme held in Puri. Ministers from several districts joined the event virtually.
Under the latest instalment, ₹5,000 was transferred to the bank accounts of about 1.02 crore women. The beneficiaries had already received three earlier instalments of the same amount since the scheme began.
According to the state government, the total amount transferred to beneficiaries under the scheme has now crossed ₹20,000 crore.
The Subhadra Yojana provides financial assistance to women aged between 21 and 60 years in Odisha. Each beneficiary receives ₹10,000 a year, paid in 2 instalments of ₹5,000 each.
First instalment is released on International Women’s Day in March, while the second is scheduled around the Raksha Bandhan festival. The support will continue for 5 years, from 2024-25 to 2028-29.
The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bhubaneswar on September 17, 2024. It aims to provide financial support of ₹50,000 to each beneficiary over 5 years.
The assistance is meant to support household spending and small economic activities among women across the state.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Majhi said the funds transferred under the programme are expected to circulate within local markets and support small traders and artisans.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida said women beneficiaries of the scheme would contribute to the state’s economic and social development in the coming years.
