The Maharashtra government has recovered approximately ₹11 crore from beneficiaries found ineligible under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana. The recovery follows audits and electronic verification exercises completed up to April 27, 2026.
Authorities identified multiple categories of beneficiaries who did not meet the scheme’s eligibility conditions. The action is part of a broader effort to tighten compliance and prevent misuse of welfare funds.
The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana provides monthly financial assistance of ₹1,500 to eligible women. Eligibility is restricted to women aged between 21 and 65 whose annual family income is below ₹2.5 lakh.
Government employees and income tax payers are explicitly excluded under the scheme rules. Despite these conditions, audits revealed that several ineligible individuals had accessed benefits.
Recent audit findings and e‑KYC verifications identified 12,915 ineligible female beneficiaries. These included individuals whose income levels exceeded eligibility thresholds or whose employment status disqualified them.
Out of this total, recovery proceedings have been initiated against 6,457 beneficiaries so far. The identification process relied on cross‑referencing employment data, income records, and Aadhaar‑linked verification details.
A significant portion of recoveries relates to nearly 12,900 government employees, mainly from Group C and Group D categories. These employees were found to have availed benefits despite being ineligible due to their salaried status.
The government has initiated fund recovery through direct salary deductions. In some cases, additional administrative action, such as the withholding of annual increments, is also being considered.
Beyond female beneficiaries, the government is investigating cases involving male beneficiaries who allegedly accessed the scheme. Reports indicate that over 12,000 such cases are under scrutiny.
These cases involve suspected manipulation or misuse of application processes. Verification and recovery actions for this group remain ongoing as of April 2026.

The ₹11 crore recovery highlights increased enforcement around welfare scheme implementation in Maharashtra. Authorities have used audits, data matching, and salary‑based deductions to address misuse.
The e‑KYC verification deadline has been extended to April 30, 2026, to further clean beneficiary records. Overall, the development reflects tighter scrutiny aimed at ensuring benefits reach only eligible recipients.
