Delhi Lakshmi Yojana: ₹2,500 Monthly Assistance for Women to Start from September 1, 2026

The Delhi government is to distribute pension letters under the Lakshmi Yojana from August 26, 2026, as per The Hindustan Times news reports. The ₹2,500 monthly assistance will be credited directly to the bank accounts of eligible women from September 1, 2026, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said. 

A programme for distributing the benefit letters will be held at Talkatora Stadium on August 26, 2026. Gupta has asked district-level committees to speed up application checks and examine cases where there are doubts about information submitted by applicants. 

Registrations and Applications 

The online registration portal opened on August 1, 2026. In the first 18 days, 8 lakh beneficiaries registered, while 5 lakh submitted completed applications, according to figures shared during a government review meeting. 

District committees have been asked to continue the verification and approval process. Local public representatives who are part of the committees have also been asked to examine applications where the details require further checking. 

Eligibility Criteria 

The scheme covers women aged 21 to 60 years with an annual family income of up to ₹2.5 lakh. Applicants must also establish their Delhi residency. Earlier guidelines required a self-declaration confirming at least 10 years of residence in Delhi. 

Applicants are to submit Aadhaar and PAN cards, an income certificate, and details of an Aadhaar-linked single-holder bank account. An endorsement letter from the local MLA or MP is also among the required documents. 

Payment of ₹2,500 

The government has set out two arrangements for the monthly assistance. Beneficiaries can choose ₹1,000 through a central bank digital currency and ₹1,500 through a fixed or recurring deposit. 

They can also choose to put the full ₹2,500 into the fixed or recurring deposit. The option will depend on the beneficiary’s choice. 

Application Corrections 

A correction facility will soon be available on the Lakshmi Yojana portal. Applicants will be able to correct errors or add missing information without submitting a new application. 

The Delhi Cabinet approved the scheme in July and allocated ₹5,110 crore for 2026-27. The government expects more than 17 lakh women to be covered. The scheme is initially planned for three years, after which its continuation will be reviewed.
