The Uttar Pradesh government has announced two free LPG cylinders a year for eligible households covered under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), as per news reports.

Beneficiaries will receive one cylinder each on Diwali and Holi, according to the announcement made on Tuesday. The announcement came during a programme for distributing LPG refill subsidies to more than 1.89 crore beneficiaries across the state.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath noted that the additional cylinders would be provided to poor families registered under the scheme.

₹1,500 Crore Allocated for Subsidies

The state government has allocated ₹1,500 crore for LPG refill subsidies. The amount will be used to provide financial assistance to eligible Ujjwala households.

At the programme, the cost of a domestic LPG cylinder was stated to be ₹983.45. The Central government provides a subsidy of ₹335, leaving consumers to pay ₹648.55 for each refill.

Under the state government's announcement, eligible households will receive one cylinder on each of the two festivals. This will be in addition to the existing Central government subsidy.

Adityanath also referred to the availability of LPG connections under previous governments. He said households had faced difficulties in obtaining connections during the Congress government's tenure, while free connections had been provided to poor families under the Ujjwala scheme.

Ayodhya Deepotsav Scheduled for November 7, 2026

Separately, Ayodhya is scheduled to hold its annual Deepotsav on November 7, 2026. The event was started by the Uttar Pradesh government in 2017 and involves cultural and religious programmes across the city.

In a post on X, CM Adityanath described the event as a symbol of social unity and said it brought together people from different sections of society. He also referred to the use of caste divisions in politics.

The free cylinder announcement adds two festival-linked LPG refills to the existing benefits available to eligible Ujjwala households in Uttar Pradesh.
