A dedicated terminal for private jets at the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to become operational by September 2026.
The terminal will cater exclusively to business aviation and VVIP passengers, addressing the space and operational limitations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
As per news reports, Adani Airports Holdings Ltd (AAHL) has confirmed that a dedicated general aviation terminal will serve private jet travellers at NMIA, with operations expected to start in September 2026.
While aircraft handling has already begun, the terminal's construction is in progress.
Hangars are also being built to meet surging demand from general aviation operators relocating from the congested Mumbai airport.
Applications for parking slot licences at NMIA have exceeded the airport's current capacity by nearly 3 times, showcasing high interest among business jet operators.
CSMIA currently accommodates around 24 general aviation aircraft. NMIA plans to start with 23 to 25 hangars and will later expand to 89, establishing it as a significant hub for private aviation in India.
In a move to decongest CSMIA, AAHL has asked all operators to vacate general aviation bays to make space for a new taxiway.
Hangar dismantling at CSMIA, initially planned for August 1, was delayed due to monsoon conditions.
Going forward, small private jets will no longer be allowed overnight parking at CSMIA. Only pick and drop services are permitted, with NMIA assuming the role of a dedicated parking facility.

Several hangars and planes at CSMIA were reportedly detected as non-compliant with obstacle line of sight (OLS) guidelines. This has led to decisions for their removal.
The policy change has faced opposition from the Business Aircraft Operators Association (BAOA) which includes major corporates like JSW Steel and Aditya Birla Group, citing concerns over added fuel expense and complexity with dual-airport movement.
The new private jet terminal at NMIA, along with significant hangar availability, is expected to reposition business aviation operations in the Mumbai region. Operational restrictions at CSMIA are prompting a shift towards NMIA for private aircraft operators.
