IRB Sindhudurg Airport in Maharashtra has received approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to operate round-the-clock in all-weather conditions.
This regulatory clearance includes Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) certification and navigation upgrades, providing a notable operational boost to the airport serving the Konkan region.
On January 3, 2026, IRB Sindhudurg Airport, managed by IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd, was officially cleared by the DGCA for 24x7 day-and-night, all-weather flight operations. The certification under IFR allows aircraft to operate safely in low visibility and adverse weather.
Additionally, approval includes published Required Navigation Performance (RNP) procedures with backup non-satellite navigation aid, enhancing pilot guidance and flight reliability throughout the year.
The airport recently recorded close to 11,000 passenger movements in December, marking a new milestone. To manage the increasing footfall, the aircraft parking area has been expanded, doubling the capacity from 3 to 6 stands.
These upgrades aim to support the growing demand for air travel in the region, including business, tourism, and regional connectivity needs.

The enhanced operational capabilities are expected to strengthen the airport’s role as a crucial entry point to the Konkan area. With reliable 24x7 operations, airlines are more likely to plan consistent schedules, potentially leading to increased connectivity options.
Plans are underway to initiate the Mumbai–Sindhudurg route under the state’s regional scheme which will benefit local residents and travellers alike.
The DGCA’s approval for 24x7 all-weather operations at IRB Sindhudurg Airport marks a significant step in improving aviation infrastructure in Maharashtra. The expanded capabilities and infrastructure are aligned with the growing passenger movement and demand in the region.
