Uttar Pradesh is set to enter India’s aviation map in a big way with the launch of Shankh Air, the state’s first home-grown airline. After receiving a no-objection certificate from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Shankh Air has taken its first official step towards operations. The airline aims to improve regional connectivity and make flying more accessible for ordinary travellers.
Shankh Air is a new Indian airline promoted from Uttar Pradesh. It plans to operate flights from key locations such as Lucknow, New Delhi, and the upcoming Jewar Airport in Noida. With this, the airline hopes to strengthen air connectivity within north India and beyond.
The airline is being operated through Shankh Aviation Private Limited, which was set up specifically to manage aviation operations.
The founder of Shankh Air is Shravan Kumar Vishwakarma, a businessman from Kanpur. He also owns Shankh Agencies Private Limited, a company established in 2022 that deals in building materials, ceramics, concrete, and wholesale trading.
Entering aviation marked a major shift from his earlier businesses, but it was a calculated move based on long-term growth potential.
Shravan Kumar Vishwakarma’s journey is rooted in modest beginnings. Born into a middle-class family, he dropped out of school at an early age and began working to support himself. At different points in his life, he travelled extensively by buses, trains, and tempos, and even drove tempos himself.
His first major business success came in the steel and TMT sector. Over time, he expanded into cement, mining, transportation, and logistics. Building a large fleet of trucks helped him grow steadily and gain financial stability before moving into aviation.
Around three to four years ago, Shravan began exploring opportunities beyond traditional industries. He noticed that air travel was no longer a luxury but a necessity, especially for people who wanted to save time. He also observed that affordable and reliable flight options for middle-class travellers were limited.
This gap inspired him to create an airline that could cater to everyday passengers, particularly from states like Uttar Pradesh that lacked their own carriers.
Shankh Air is expected to boost regional connectivity, support economic activity, and place Uttar Pradesh firmly on India’s aviation landscape. It also reflects the growing role of regional entrepreneurs in shaping new industries.
