India’s renewable momentum continues to accelerate, with Karnataka emerging as a key contributor and rooftop solar adoption expanding rapidly across the country.
Karnataka has installed 25,675.39 MW of renewable energy capacity as of October 31, 2025, accounting for 10.24% of India’s total 2,50,643.45 MW renewable portfolio.
The state’s contribution reflects its strong integration of solar and wind infrastructure within the national clean energy network.
At the national level, households are increasingly embracing the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), a demand-driven rooftop solar scheme. Across India, 18,72,499 rooftop solar systems have been installed, benefitting 23,47,694 households as of 26 November 2025. Karnataka has added 14,151 systems, offering clean power to 22,313 households.
Belagavi district has shown rising interest in the scheme, with 25,778 applications submitted and 681 households already powered by rooftop solar installations as of November 26, 2025. To meet the national target of 1 crore rooftop solar households by 2026–27, multiple initiatives have been implemented to simplify adoption.
The programme now offers online registration-to-subsidy disbursal, collateral-free loans at 6% interest with 10-year tenure, and auto load enhancement up to 10 kW without technical feasibility checks.
Vendor availability has been expanded through simplified registration, resulting in 20,423 registered vendors as of November 11, 2025, while capacity-building efforts have trained 1,49,916 individuals.
Nationwide outreach via print, TV and radio campaigns, along with regional review meetings and a multilingual call centre (15555, operating in 12 languages), further supports adoption.
The government has allocated ₹351.94 crore for the development of the 2,000 MW Pavagada Solar Park, which has been fully operational since December 2019.

Karnataka’s renewable capacity achievements, combined with the expanding reach of the rooftop solar programme, underline India’s accelerating shift toward decentralised clean energy. As installations rise and support systems strengthen, the country remains positioned to scale sustainable power access across millions of households.
