India’s Global Capability Centres (GCCs) now account for 22.5% of the country’s AI demand, according to ANSR’s AI Talent Trends in India’s GCCs Report 2025.

The report notes that GCCs employ 126,600 people working in AI-aligned functions, with 18,300 of them in core roles covering machine learning, GenAI, LLMOps, and data science.

Increase in AI-Related Work

AI contributes a growing share of activity within GCCs, with over 13% of their workforce now handling AI-driven tasks.

Organisations are drawing from existing software, data, and cloud teams and retraining them for AI responsibilities, allowing these centres to support more production-level work without relying solely on external hiring.

India’s AI Talent Indicators

India’s AI skill penetration stands at 2.5 times the global average, showing a pool of trained professionals. Between 2016 and 2024, AI talent concentration increased 252%, ahead of growth rates in countries such as the US, Germany, and the UK.

The report also shows that 2024 recorded no net negative migration of AI professionals, supported by an increase in higher-value roles within India’s ecosystem.

Building Systems for Enterprise AI

GCCs are setting up structures to support consistent deployment of AI across companies. This includes creating Centres of Excellence, governance layers, and LLMOps systems that manage how language models are developed and maintained.

A later phase, expected after 2028, may involve the use of agentic AI systems to support routine decision-making and predictive functions across global teams.

Shifts in Talent Distribution

Bengaluru remains the largest hub with 29% of India’s AI workforce, followed by Mumbai, which draws from its BFSI presence.

Tier-2 cities such as Kochi, Coimbatore, and Ahmedabad are becoming important locations for GenAI and DataOps delivery, contributing to a more distributed talent network across the country.

Conclusion

With a 16.4% CAGR in AI workforce expansion and a supply of adjacent technology talent, GCCs continue to play a central role in building out India’s enterprise AI capacity.
