The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Argentina’s National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) have signed a Work Plan for 2025–2027 to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture. The agreement was exchanged by Dr M.L. Jat, Secretary of DARE and Director General of ICAR, and H.E. Mariano Augustin Caucino, Argentinian Ambassador to India.
This initiative aims to enhance collaboration in research, technology exchange, and capacity building across multiple agricultural domains. Annual monitoring and review will ensure effective implementation.
The Work Plan covers natural resource management, sustainable agronomy practices such as zero tillage, mechanisation, micro-irrigation, and fertigation. It also includes crop and animal biotechnology, livestock improvement, and production technologies for temperate and tropical crops.
Digital agriculture, biosafety, phytosanitary measures, and value chain development are integral components. Implementation will involve joint research projects, germplasm exchange, expert engagements, and structured training programmes.
Planned study visits and training sessions will focus on greenhouse vegetable production, floriculture, temperate fruits, post-harvest physiology, and functional food development. Veterinary diagnostics, precision livestock farming, waste-to-wealth technologies, microbial feed enhancement, and digital agriculture are also part of the agenda.
Germplasm exchange will include soybean, sunflower, maize, blueberry, citrus, wild papaya species, guava, and select vegetable crops. These initiatives aim to improve productivity and sustainability in both countries.
India and Argentina will deepen cooperation in oilseeds and pulses value chains, agricultural mechanisation, and horticulture infrastructure. Mechanisation efforts include zero-tillage systems, cotton harvesting machinery, and drone technology.
In plant and animal health, the plan envisages region-specific Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) elimination strategies and enhanced locust surveillance. Technical exchanges and best-practice sharing will strengthen biosecurity and ensure resilient food systems.
