India's Role as BRICS Chair
India's Chairship in 2026 is anchored in the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability." This approach reflects the Prime Minister's "Humanity First" vision. The summit will focus on deepening intra-BRICS cooperation and addressing shared concerns.
Throughout its Chairship, India has organised over 350 meetings and high-level engagements across more than 25 cities nationwide. These efforts span BRICS' key pillars: political and security cooperation, economic and financial cooperation, and cultural and people-to-people exchange.
BRICS Member Countries
BRICS comprises 11 member countries: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.
The group serves as a platform for consultation and cooperation on pressing global and regional issues.
India's BRICS Legacy
As a founding member of BRICS, India has chaired the group 3 times before: in 2012, 2016, and 2021. The 2026 Chairship marks India's fourth time leading the group, coinciding with BRICS' 20th anniversary since its founding.
