NPCI has introduced two AI platforms as it looks to handle the growing operational complexity around India's digital payments infrastructure. AiNxt and AtOM were launched on September 9 at the Bharat AI Zone during the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai.

The two platforms have different roles. AiNxt is built for developing AI agents and customised AI applications, while AtOM focuses on the processes involved in bringing changes and new participants into payment ecosystems.

AiNxt Opens Platform For AI Agent Development

AiNxt is an enterprise platform that allows organisations and individuals to create and deploy AI solutions. Users can also bring their own models through its Bring Your Own Models (BYOM) capability and adapt solutions to specific business requirements.

The platform is open source, allowing users to access, modify and extend it. Its product suite includes AiNxt OS, AiNxt Code, AiNxt CLI and AiNxt Enterprise, supporting no-code, low-code and developer-led workflows.

AtOM Targets UPI's Operational Work

AtOM, or Agentic Orchestration and Messaging, addresses a different problem. NPCI has designed it to bring integration, development, partner onboarding and certification into a single auditable workflow.

For banks and payment service providers, the platform is expected to reduce manual work around testing and certification and make it easier to coordinate changes across the UPI ecosystem.

Digital Records Built into AtOM

NPCI said AtOM uses machine-readable and digitally signed interactions. The organisation expects these features to strengthen compliance and audit readiness while creating a clearer record of activities across the workflow.

The platform has been built using JSON-RPC 2.0, and its architecture can be extended beyond UPI.

UPI's Scale Drives AI Adoption

UPI now processes more than 24.5 billion transactions a month, worth around ₹30 lakh crore. It accounts for 89% of India's digital transactions, according to NPCI.

With such a large network of banks and payment service providers, NPCI is increasingly using AI and other technologies to manage the infrastructure supporting digital payments.

Conclusion

AiNxt and AtOM give NPCI two separate AI-focused tools for the digital payments ecosystem. While AiNxt targets AI development, AtOM is focused on making the operational side of payment-system changes more structured and manageable.
