In a historic diplomatic milestone, India and Angola have deepened their partnership through the signing of new Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) focused on fisheries, aquaculture, and marine resource management.
The agreements were exchanged during President Droupadi Murmu’s state visit to Angola, the first by an Indian head of state to the country, aimed at expanding cooperation across energy, trade, and sustainable development.
President Droupadi Murmu was received with full ceremonial honours, including a 21-gun salute, at the Presidential Palace in Luanda by Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço.
Following delegation-level discussions, both leaders witnessed the formal exchange of MoUs and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties rooted in mutual respect and shared growth.
“The partnership between India and Angola is built on mutual trust, respect and a shared vision for the prosperity of our peoples,” President Murmu said, expressing gratitude for Angola’s warm hospitality and its invitation to attend the 50th anniversary of independence celebrations.
While the 2 countries already share a strong energy relationship, the new agreements signal an expansion into diverse areas including agriculture, technology, health, defence, and infrastructure.
Both sides also agreed to explore greater collaboration in trade, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges to strengthen economic resilience and mutual development.
India welcomed Angola’s decision to join the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) and the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA), reflecting the African nation’s growing role in global sustainability and conservation initiatives. The 2 countries reaffirmed their intent to work closely under the India–Africa Forum Summit framework, promoting shared prosperity across the continent.
